The journalist traveled to Vietnam to visit family and renew their passport. The BBC has requested that Vietnamese authorities allow the journalist to depart immediately and return to work by providing the renewed passport.
This situation coincides with the visit of To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, to the UK, which began on Tuesday. During his visit, To Lam is anticipated to meet with Sir Keir Starmer.
