An underground explosion at the Endeavor mine in Cobar, New South Wales, has resulted in two deaths. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, leading to the deaths of an Irish man and one woman.

RTÉ News has identified one of the deceased as Ambrose Patrick McMullen, aged 59, from Cootehill, County Cavan, Republic of Ireland. Mr. McMullen was reportedly married with children. NSW Police confirmed that two women, both in their 20s, were brought to the surface following the explosion, with one of them later dying.
Context
The explosion is the first fatal mine explosion in Australia in a decade. Mr. McMullen, known as Ambie, had previously attended St Aidan's Comprehensive School in Cootehill and moved to Australia in the mid-1980s.
