The National Rugby League (NRL) has updated its eligibility rules for State of Origin selection, now permitting players who have previously represented England or New Zealand to be considered. This significant rule change allows players like Sharks duo Addin Fonua-Blake and Briton Nikora to become eligible, both of whom have publicly expressed their ambition to participate in the prestigious State of Origin series.

Addin Fonua-Blake, who represented New Zealand in 2017 before playing for Tonga, has unequivocally declared his commitment to New South Wales (NSW). He stated that despite spending his early years in Brisbane, he identifies as "100 percent NSW" after moving to Sydney at approximately five years old.

Fonua-Blake conveyed his aspiration to be part of the "brutal" rivalries inherent in State of Origin, viewing it as a significant challenge. He also expressed keen interest in playing alongside Payne Haas, whom he describes as a "generational talent."

Fonua-Blake unequivocally stated his identity: "I'm 100 percent NSW."

Briton Nikora, who moved to the Gold Coast from New Zealand at nine years old, is now eligible for Queensland (QLD). Nikora affirmed his willingness to represent the Maroons, stating he would "put my hand up for it straight away" if QLD coach Billy Slater were to contact him. He highlighted that Origin represents a pinnacle of the sport.
