The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has suspended the processing of all immigration requests for Afghan nationals.
This decision is pending a comprehensive review of existing security and vetting protocols, as announced by USCIS. The agency stated on X, "The protection and safety of our homeland and of the American people remains our singular focus and mission."
This suspension follows a recent shooting incident near the White House, where two National Guard soldiers sustained critical injuries. The individual identified as the alleged gunman is an Afghan national who entered the U.S. in September 2021.
U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the event, labeling the attack an "act of terror." He also indicated plans to take steps to remove foreigners "from any country who does not belong here."
