Australian police have issued a warning regarding online crime networks that are targeting girls. These networks are reported to be coercing girls into violent acts, which include harm to themselves, their siblings, or pets. Australian Federal Police (AFP) Commissioner Krissy Barrett described this activity as a "twisted type of gamification."
Law Enforcement Response
In response to these activities, a new taskforce has been formed. This taskforce is designed to assist global authorities in confronting what Commissioner Barrett has termed a "new and disturbing front in traditional gender-based violence." Commissioner Barrett is scheduled to deliver a speech on this topic on Wednesday.
Arrests Made
Law enforcement efforts have led to arrests both domestically and internationally. Three individuals have been apprehended in Australia, and an additional nine people have been arrested in other countries in connection with these online crime networks.
Alleged Perpetrator Motives
