Russian drone and missile strikes impacted residential areas in Kyiv on Saturday morning, according to city officials. Explosions were reported across the capital.
Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko stated that a 13-year-old was among the injured, and four individuals were hospitalized. Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv's military administration, confirmed one fatality and seven injuries in total, noting the strike hit "multiple targets on the capital's outskirts." Rescuers located the body of a man in the Sviatoshynskyi district. The regional governor reported two women were wounded in Brovary, east of Kyiv, following missile and drone impacts on residential areas. Klitschko added that a fire ignited in the lower floors of a high-rise apartment block in a western district, and another fire in a central district was brought under control.
This strike follows an earlier incident this week where overnight exchanges between Russia and Ukraine resulted in seven deaths and apartment building fires in Kyiv, and three deaths in Russia's Rostov region.
The current event occurs amidst diplomatic activity regarding a proposed peace plan. President Donald Trump has advocated for this plan, which was initially drafted with conditions reflecting Moscow's demands. Subsequent revisions were made during discussions between Ukrainian and US negotiators in Geneva.
On Thursday, President Vladimir Putin articulated Russia's core demands for ending the conflict, stating that military operations would halt upon Ukraine's withdrawal from territories Russia considers its own. Putin also confirmed that a US delegation, including special envoy Steve Witkoff, is anticipated in Moscow next week to engage in discussions concerning the draft peace plan. President Volodymyr Zelensky, in a video address on Thursday, indicated that Ukrainian and US delegations would convene to formalize the points agreed upon in Geneva, with the objective of advancing toward peace and security guarantees.
