General Manager Refutes Stroud Trade Rumors

During the 2026 Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Texans General Manager Nick Caserio dismissed suggestions of a potential trade involving quarterback C.J. Stroud.

Caserio characterized the trade speculation as "moronic," stating that Stroud is "not going anywhere" ahead of the 2026 season.

He further affirmed the organization's position, stating they are "glad he’s our quarterback" and clarified that Stroud is expected to be the team’s starting quarterback for the upcoming season.

Stroud's NFL Journey and Recent Playoff Performance

C.J. Stroud, who was selected as the second-overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, is entering his fourth NFL season. The Texans have advanced to the divisional round of the playoffs in Stroud's first three years, including their progression to the Divisional Round of the 2025-2026 NFL Playoffs.

Their playoff run concluded with a 28-16 defeat by the New England Patriots. In that particular game, Stroud threw four interceptions, which contributed to public discussions regarding his long-term future with the team.

Contract Extension Eligibility

Stroud is currently eligible for a contract extension prior to the 2026 NFL season. The team also retains the option to exercise a contract option for the 2027 season, which could potentially defer a longer-term deal.

ESPN insider Dan Graziano projected that Stroud would sign a new contract.

However, Graziano also noted that factors such as Stroud's recent playoff performance or potential high contract demands could lead to prolonged negotiations before a new deal is finalized.
