Flavor Flav Offers to Host U.S. Women's Olympic Hockey Team

Following a statement by President Trump regarding the U.S. women's Olympic hockey team, entertainer Flavor Flav offered to host the team in Las Vegas.

Presidential Invitation and Remarks

President Trump extended an invitation to the U.S. men's hockey team to the White House to commemorate their gold medal victory. During a subsequent call, he mentioned the women's team, stating they would "have to bring the women's team," and added a comment about potential impeachment if he did not, which was met with laughter from the male athletes.

The Women's Team: Gold and Prior Invitation Decline

The U.S. women's hockey team had also secured a gold medal in the Olympics, defeating Canada. They had previously declined a presidential invitation to the State of the Union address, an event which followed the President's call to the men's team.

Flavor Flav's Generous Offer

Flavor Flav later posted on Instagram, offering to host the U.S. Women's Hockey Team in Las Vegas.

He described the potential trip as featuring "nice dinners and shows and good times."
He indicated that he would seek assistance from a hotel and airline to facilitate this initiative.

A Consistent Supporter of Athletes

Flav has a history of supporting Olympic athletes, having previously served as a "hype man" for bobsled and skeleton teams. His commitment extends to sponsoring U.S. water polo teams for the 2024 Paris Olympics. His sponsorship efforts were partly motivated by understanding the earnings of women athletes.

Expert Perspective on Flav's Philanthropy

Independent journalist Frankie de la Cretaz commented on Flav's consistent support for women athletes.

De la Cretaz noted that the U.S. does not federally fund its elite Olympic athletes, who often rely on sponsorships, and that women athletes are frequently more under-resourced.
De la Cretaz observed that Flav's support has been consistent and not perceived as demeaning or performative.
