Gold Coast Parents Charged with Manslaughter After Fatal Car Crash

The parents of a three-year-old boy have been charged with manslaughter after a car crash on the Gold Coast.

Police allege that on October 25, the then 22-year-old mother was driving with the 24-year-old father and their two sons, aged one and three, when she crashed into bushland in Stapylton.

Incident Details

A witness transported the mother and the three-year-old, who had sustained significant head injuries, to the Beenleigh police station. The father reportedly left the scene with the one-year-old boy before officers arrived.

Officers performed CPR on the three-year-old boy, but he was not revived.

Investigation Underway

Authorities initiated Operation X-ray Grid to investigate the incident. This operation involved officers from the Gold Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit, alongside other specialist units, conducting forensic and mechanical investigations.

Charges Laid

The mother, now 23, from Labrador, faces charges including manslaughter, a domestic violence offense against a child, trafficking in dangerous drugs, driving a motor vehicle without a driver's license, and possessing an item used in the commission of a crime.

The 24-year-old father from Beenleigh has been charged with manslaughter, a domestic violence offense against a child, and trafficking in dangerous drugs.

Both individuals are currently in custody and are scheduled to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today. Police have stated that investigations are ongoing.
