First all-wheel drive M2 arrives August 2026, with a new Track Kit for the standard car and a lighter exhaust for the M2 CS.
BMW has introduced an all-wheel drive version of its M2 coupe, designated the M2 with M xDrive, alongside a new M Performance Track Kit for the standard M2 and a performance exhaust for the M2 CS. The M2 M xDrive is scheduled for production in August 2026, with Australian deliveries expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.
M2 M xDrive: Specifications and Pricing
Drivetrain and Performance
The M2 M xDrive is the first all-wheel drive version of the compact performance coupe. It is powered by the same S58-series twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine as the rear-wheel drive M2, producing 353kW and 600Nm of torque. The engine is paired exclusively with an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission; no manual transmission option is available.
The M xDrive system uses an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch to vary torque distribution between the front and rear axles. Under normal driving conditions, the system operates in rear-wheel drive mode, engaging the front axle when additional traction is required. Drivers can select between all-wheel drive modes or switch to two-wheel drive with the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) deactivated. The system includes an Active M Differential, M-specific traction control, and Dynamic Stability Control.
The M2 M xDrive accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, which is 0.3 seconds faster than the rear-wheel drive model. Its kerb weight is 1,790 kg, 60 kg heavier than the rear-drive automatic model. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.
Engine Technology
The M2 M xDrive debuts BMW M Ignite Technology, a pre-chamber ignition system designed to improve combustion efficiency and help meet Euro 7 emissions requirements.
The system includes a dedicated pre-chamber in the cylinder head with its own spark plug and ignition coil, producing high-speed flame jets to ignite the air-fuel mixture from multiple points. Additional engine enhancements include a higher compression ratio (increased from 9.3:1 to 10.5:1) and turbochargers with variable turbine geometry. Peak torque is now available from 2,200-5,600 rpm (previously 2,650-6,130 rpm).
Fuel consumption in laboratory testing is rated at 10.3-10.4 L/100 km, compared to 9.6-9.8 L/100 km for the rear-drive M2.

Production will begin in August 2026 at BMW's San Luis Potosi facility in Mexico. The vehicle is scheduled to arrive in Australian showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2026. Key markets include the USA, Germany, and China.

M Performance Track Kit for M2
BMW has introduced an M Performance Track Kit for the standard M2 coupe, available for new cars and as a retrofit for existing models. The kit focuses on aerodynamic and suspension modifications without altering the engine output.
Aerodynamic Enhancements
The kit includes a manually adjustable front splitter and a rear wing. For track use, the splitter extends to merge with the diffuser. The rear wing, derived from the M4 GT4 and M3 GT3 race cars, can be moved 50 mm rearward in "Race Mode" for increased downforce, or retracted to within the M2's original dimensions for "Street Mode" compliance. The wing integrates a third brake light and features an adjustable attack angle. Additional aerodynamic components include wheel-arch diffusers and a scoop for the engine oil cooler.
Suspension and Handling
The kit features four-way adjustable dampers and adjustable support bearings. The ride height can be lowered by up to 20 mm compared to the standard car.
BMW states this is its first motorsport-spec damper system developed for a road-legal vehicle. The kit also includes a mass damper system, which BMW states is a first for a production road-legal model.
Pricing and Availability
In Germany, the M Performance Track Kit is priced at €23,500 to €25,500 (approximately $27,500 to $39,039), excluding taxes and installation fees. The package is scheduled for release in July 2026. Availability in the US and Australia has not been confirmed.
M Performance Exhaust for M2 CS
BMW has also introduced an M Performance exhaust system for the M2 CS. The system is approximately 8 kg lighter than the standard exhaust and features carbon and titanium tailpipe trims. BMW states it is designed to alter the sound without increasing the engine's existing outputs of 390kW and 650Nm. In Germany, the exhaust is priced at €8,343 (approximately $9,800), excluding installation.
