Crystal was joined on stage by actress Meg Ryan and several other actors from Reiner's films, including: Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, Kathy Bates, Kiefer Sutherland, Demi Moore, Jerry O’Connell, Annette Benning, Mandy Patinkin, Fred Savage, and Cary Elwes.

Corey Feldman, a star from Reiner's film "Stand By Me," was notably absent. He publicly stated prior to the ceremony that he had not been invited and requested that efforts to advocate for his presence cease.

In other Academy Awards news, Barbra Streisand was reportedly in discussions to perform during the In Memoriam segment to honor Robert Redford. The 2021 Academy Awards ceremony previously included a tribute to Reiner’s father, Carl.

Tragic Deaths and Legal Proceedings

Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were discovered deceased in their Brentwood residence on December 14, 2025. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner attributed their deaths to "multiple sharp force injuries." It was reported that Rob, Michele, and their son Nick Reiner attended a party hosted by Conan O’Brien on the evening prior to the discovery of the bodies.

Their son, Nick Reiner, was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of murder. The 32-year-old entered a plea of not guilty on February 23, 2026, in Los Angeles Superior Court. He is scheduled for a future court appearance on April 29, 2026. Nick Reiner faces two counts of murder with an enhancement that could result in the death penalty or life imprisonment without parole if convicted.

Reiner's passing was also acknowledged at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards in January. Host Chelsea Handler delivered remarks, describing Reiner as a personable individual known for engaging conversations, and noted that Reiner and his wife were dedicated to various causes promoting decency and mutual support.
