Truck Incident on Tantula Road East Causes Widespread Damage After Reported Brake Failure

A delivery truck carrying concrete blocks was involved in an incident on Tantula Road East in Alexandra Headland on Thursday morning, reportedly after losing control due to brake failure. The incident, which occurred just before 7 am, resulted in multiple vehicles and property being damaged, with the truck driver sustaining minor injuries.

Incident Unfolds on Hilly Tantula Road

The event took place on Tantula Road East, a hilly road located in a residential area of Alexandra Headland on the Sunshine Coast. A delivery truck transporting concrete blocks reportedly lost control while descending the hill. Federal MP Andrew Wallace stated that the truck had reportedly lost its brakes.

Witnesses reported hearing the driver state that the truck had "no brakes" as it descended the hill in reverse.

The truck collided with approximately 10 to 11 parked vehicles, a caravan, a guard rail, and a concrete letterbox. Former federal minister Mal Brough reported that two of his cars, his caravan, and his letterbox were among the damaged property. Following these collisions, the truck went over an embankment, resulting in a diesel leak.

Driver's Actions and Injuries Sustained

The truck's occupant sustained minor injuries and declined transport to a hospital. No individuals inside the other vehicles involved were reported to have been injured.

Witnesses reported that the driver steered the truck onto a slightly less steep service street.

Mr. Brough commented that this action may have prevented the truck from colliding with a house.

Emergency Crews Mobilize Response

Emergency services, including the Queensland Fire Department and Queensland Ambulance Services (QAS), responded to the scene. Fire crews disconnected vehicle batteries as a precautionary measure to prevent potential fires. A QAS spokesperson confirmed the truck driver's minor injuries.

Road Closure and Ongoing Investigation

Tantula Road East was closed for several hours following the incident to allow for cleanup and investigation, with traffic being diverted. The Queensland Police Service is conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the traffic crash, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Community Shows Support Amidst Aftermath

Resident Hayley Qualischefski observed the final moments of the incident, including bricks detaching from the truck and the vehicle colliding with other cars. Mr. Brough noted that local residents provided assistance to each other in the aftermath, with some offering to lend cars to those whose vehicles were damaged.
