The Atlanta Falcons are reportedly planning to release veteran wide receiver Darnell Mooney.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the Falcons may explore trade options for Mooney before his official release, ahead of the new league year.

Financial Implications of Mooney's Release

Mooney's cap number for the upcoming season is $18.42 million. If released, the Falcons would incur $11 million in dead money.

Designating Mooney as a post-June 1 cut would clear nearly $12 million in cap space. However, these savings would not be immediately available to the team.

Mooney's Performance with the Falcons

During his first year with the Falcons, Mooney recorded 64 catches for 992 yards.

His performance declined in the 2025 season to 32 catches for 443 yards.
