Prahran Arson: Man Charged with Death of Alleged Accomplice

Arrest Made in Fitzroy

A 44-year-old man has been charged with causing the death of another individual following an alleged arson incident in Prahran. Authorities arrested the man at his Fitzroy residence on Thursday morning. The arrest was carried out by detectives from the Arson and Explosives Squad.

The Alleged Incident Unfolds

Police reports indicate that in the early hours of January 15, 2025, the accused and a second man allegedly poured fuel inside a Chapel Street dessert bar.

The resulting fire caused extensive damage to the business and nearby properties.

Witnesses observed one of the men visibly on fire as both individuals fled the scene in an orange Holden Commodore.

Tragic Outcome

The vehicle was later found abandoned on Birdwood Avenue in South Yarra. The second man, an alleged accomplice, subsequently died in hospital.
