Netflix Unveils New Period Drama 'Alexander' Featuring Alexander the Great and Aristotle

Netflix has announced a new period drama series titled "Alexander," which will focus on Alexander the Great and his tutor, Aristotle. This significant historical drama is poised to explore one of history's most impactful mentor-protégé relationships.

Creative Team Led by Jacob Tierney

Jacob Tierney, known for his work on "Heated Rivalry," is set to take on multiple key roles for the "Alexander" series. Tierney will write, direct, and executive-produce the highly anticipated drama.

Additional executive producers include Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan from Aggregate Films. They will be joined by Brendan Brady, who also previously collaborated with Tierney on "Heated Rivalry."

Plot Details and Literary Foundation

The series draws its inspiration from Annabel Lyon's acclaimed novel, "The Golden Mean." It will portray Aristotle's arrival in Macedonia, where he is tasked with tutoring a young Prince Alexander.

This period marks a time when the Athenian empire is in decline. The narrative promises to delve into the evolving friendship between these two iconic figures.

The plot will navigate a complex web of palace intrigue, forbidden romance, warfare, and significant political ambitions. The series aims to illustrate how this pivotal relationship between tutor and prince ultimately influences an empire and shapes historical events.

Vision Behind the Adaptation

Tierney has expressed a long-standing passion for adapting Lyon's novel. Jinny Howe, Netflix's Head of U.S. and Canada Scripted Series, also shared her enthusiasm for the project.

Howe commented on Tierney's creative vision, noting its innovative reimagining of the mentor-protégé dynamic with a compelling blend of epic scope and intimate character elements.
