Maple Leafs Trade Roy to Avalanche
Player Roy has departed the Toronto Maple Leafs, a move confirmed by coach Craig Berube. The Maple Leafs have acquired draft considerations from the Colorado Avalanche.
Roy's Career Profile
Roy's career encompasses 186 points (73 goals, 113 assists) over 428 regular-season games. He has played for the Carolina Hurricanes, Vegas Golden Knights, and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
He was a key member of the Vegas Golden Knights' Stanley Cup-winning team in 2023.
Trade Specifics Unveiled
The Maple Leafs will receive a conditional 2027 or 2028 first-round pick from the Avalanche.
The condition stipulates that if the Avalanche's 2027 first-round selection falls within the top 10, Toronto will instead acquire Colorado's unprotected 2028 first-round pick.
Additionally, Toronto will receive the lowest of Colorado's three fifth-round selections in the 2026 Draft.
Team Performance and Current Standings
The Colorado Avalanche currently leads the NHL standings. They are also six points ahead of the Dallas Stars in the Central Division.
Conversely, the Toronto Maple Leafs are ranked seventh in the Atlantic Division. They are trailing the Boston Bruins by eight points for the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Maple Leafs have recently recorded five consecutive losses (0-3-2) since a recent break, accumulating 11 losses in their last 14 games (3-8-3).
Other Avalanche Transactions
In a separate move, the Avalanche recently acquired defenseman Nick Blankenberg from the Nashville Predators. This transaction involved sending a fifth-round pick in the 2027 draft to Nashville.
