Sgt. Declan J. Coady has been identified as one of six U.S. troops killed at Shuaiba port in Kuwait during the initial hours of conflict with Iran. The soldiers were assigned to the 103rd Sustainment Command, an Army Reserve unit based in Des Moines, Iowa. Coady was 20 years old and had enlisted in the Army in 2023. He was posthumously promoted from Specialist to Sergeant.

Family Statement
Coady's family released a statement regarding his death. His sister, Kiera Coady, stated that the family was notified on the evening of March 1 after not hearing from him throughout the day. The family described Sgt. Coady as "a rock in all of our lives" and "the most amazing brother and son my family could have asked for."
