Masahiro Sakurai Reveals Authorship of Kirby Air Riders Theme Lyrics

Director Masahiro Sakurai has revealed that he authored the lyrics for the main theme song of the game Kirby Air Riders. This information was shared during an interview published on Nintendo's website.

Why the Secrecy?

Sakurai stated that his reason for not disclosing this previously was to prevent the work's world from being solely associated with one person. He expressed a desire to maintain the fantasy aspect of the Kirby world, allowing the theme song to have its own narrative independent of his direct involvement as lyricist.

Dual Meanings Within the Lyrics

He further elaborated on the theme song's lyrical composition, noting that it carries two distinct meanings. On the surface, the lyrics convey the joy of interacting with machines. However, a deeper interpretation reflects the character Zorah's desire to regain lost freedom.

Collaboration and Creative Process

Sakurai explained that he collaborated with composer Iwadare. After receiving three compositions, he decided to integrate Iwadare's third piece into a ballad focused on Zorah, driven by the novel concept of lyrics conveying two different emotional layers.
