2026 Formula 1 Season: First Practice Session at Albert Park

Charles Leclerc of Ferrari set the fastest lap during the first practice session of the 2026 Formula 1 season.

Teammate Lewis Hamilton finished second, with Max Verstappen of Red Bull securing the third-fastest time.

New Regulations and Team Debuts Unveiled

The session introduced new technical regulations and new car designs. The cars began their maiden practice outing at Albert Park Circuit at 12:30 local time.

Nico Hulkenberg's Audi was the first car to exit the pit lane, leading a queue of vehicles onto the track. Most of the grid participated in the initial moments of the session, which also marked Cadillac's debut in Formula 1.

Piastri Reports 'No Power' Issue

Oscar Piastri reported a 'no power' issue in his McLaren, leading to a brief yellow flag. Piastri was later able to resume running.
