Cary Elwes Honors Rob Reiner on What Would Have Been Director's 79th Birthday

Actor Cary Elwes paid tribute to director Rob Reiner on March 6, marking what would have been Reiner's 79th birthday. The star of "The Princess Bride" shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, reflecting on Reiner's passing.

Rob Reiner passed away on December 14, 2025, in his Los Angeles home. His wife, Michele Reiner, was found deceased with him. Authorities investigated the deaths as an apparent homicide by stabbing, and their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested the same evening on suspicion of murder.

Elwes, who famously starred in Reiner's 1987 film "The Princess Bride," shared his recent tribute stating: "Today would have been your 79th birthday. Still hard to believe you’re gone. Missing you so much #robreiner."

Weeks prior, on December 29, Elwes had shared a longer reflection on the director. He wrote: "I was 24 when I first met Rob Reiner on The Princess Bride. And from that very first meeting I fell in love with him."

Reiner was a prolific and celebrated filmmaker, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in cinema. He was widely recognized for directing acclaimed films such as "When Harry Met Sally," "Stand By Me," "Misery," and "A Few Good Men."
