Toto Wolff's Dual IWC Watches Make a Statement at Albert Park Qualifying

During qualifying at Albert Park, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff was observed wearing two IWC watches simultaneously, one on each wrist.

Wolff offered an explanation for his unique choice of wristwear.

Wolff stated that one watch displayed European time on his left wrist and the other displayed local time on his right wrist.

The Watches Unveiled

The watch adorning his left wrist was identified as a George Russell Pilot’s Watch edition. This distinctive model is a black ceramic IWC piece, presented in Russell’s signature blue, and is limited to 1,063 pieces.

On his right wrist, Wolff sported his Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber XPL. This formidable 44mm Ceratanium timepiece was custom-built for him by IWC and is part of an exclusive series limited to just 100 pieces worldwide. Both watches notably match the Mercedes team's signature colors.

A Peculiar Time-Telling Choice

Despite Wolff's stated intention to display different time zones, a key detail about the watches themselves was noted.

Neither the George Russell Pilot’s Watch nor the Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber XPL include a second time zone or GMT function; both are standard time-and-date models.

Technical Specifications and Value

The Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber XPL retails for approximately USD $102,000. It features IWC’s innovative SPRIN-g PROTECT system, specifically designed to protect the movement from forces exceeding 30,000g.

The George Russell edition comes with varying price points based on its movement. The chronograph version is priced at USD $12,900, while the automatic version is available for USD $8,900.

Mercedes Secures Front Row

In a strong showing for the team, Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team secured the front row for the race. George Russell qualified in pole position, with teammate Kimi Antonelli joining him in second place.
