Heavy Rain Forces Draw in Queensland vs. Western Australia Sheffield Shield Clash

Heavy downpours in Brisbane resulted in the Sheffield Shield contest between Queensland and Western Australia ending in a draw on Sunday. The draw allowed Queensland to secure an extra point.

Western Australia had been in a strong position to secure a victory on the final day, following Queensland's collapse to 6-44 in their fourth-innings' pursuit of 267 runs.

Only 4.4 overs of play were possible on day four. During this limited play, Queensland's Jimmy Peirson (9no) was hit on the hand and Tom Straker (0no) was struck in the helmet, both necessitating injury breaks. These incidents contributed to time taken out of the game while Western Australia's seamers Cameron Gannon (3-27) and Joel Paris (2-15) were bowling.

Consistent rain subsequently prevented Western Australia from pushing for victory. This outcome makes it probable that Western Australia will finish last for the second consecutive season.

Queensland has moved from second to third in the Sheffield Shield standings. South Australia remains within reach if Queensland defeats Tasmania next week.
