Insights into Iran's Political System and Regional Strategy

Danny Citrinowicz, a senior researcher at the Institute of National Security Studies and former head of the Iranian branch of Israel's Defense Intelligence, has offered critical insights into Iran's political system and its overarching regional strategy.

Iran's System Resilience

Citrinowicz stated that Iran's system, shaped by Supreme Leader Khamenei since 1989, is robust, built on enduring institutions and the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

He noted that despite mounting challenges, the system remains fortified and deeply committed to continuing the revolution.

Citrinowicz conveyed that the regime would likely not collapse even if Supreme Leader Khamenei were killed. He suggested that the current campaign against Iran might therefore be based on flawed assumptions and could continue.

Houthi Non-Intervention

Regarding the Houthis in Yemen, who are also supported by Iran, Citrinowicz expressed surprise at their delayed entry into the conflict.

He theorized that Iran might be preserving them for later stages of an anticipated attrition war. Alternatively, the Houthis might be exercising caution due to the potential for significant losses.

Citrinowicz anticipates their eventual involvement as the conflict progresses and perceived threats to Iran increase.

US Forces Speculation

Citrinowicz expressed skepticism regarding recent media speculation about US forces potentially entering Iran to secure enriched uranium stockpiles.
