Bengals Explored Maxx Crosby Acquisition Before Ravens Trade

The Cincinnati Bengals reportedly explored acquiring defensive end Maxx Crosby last week before he was traded to the Baltimore Ravens, according to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.

Trade Discussions

Breer reported that several teams, including the Bills, Bears, Cowboys, and Ravens, were actively pursuing Crosby early in the trade process. This initial aggression reportedly contributed to the Las Vegas Raiders increasing their asking price.

The Bengals expressed interest in a Crosby trade after the departure of Trey Hendrickson.

According to Breer, the Eagles also inquired about Crosby, but their focus remained on retaining Jaelan Phillips. The Bengals were described as a "latecomer" to the discussions.

Breer noted that over a quarter of the NFL's 32 teams showed some level of interest in Crosby during this period.

Bengals' Prior Assessment of Crosby

Bengals personnel, including quarterback Joe Burrow and head coach Zac Taylor, have previously acknowledged Crosby's play style.

Before Cincinnati's 2022 Wild Card round victory against Las Vegas, Taylor commented on Crosby, stating he is "one of the best players in the NFL" and can "disrupt an entire game." Taylor also expressed his respect for Crosby's performance in both run and pass defense, as well as his leadership.

Potential Trade Compensation

It is suggested that the Bengals may have been disinclined to offer significant draft compensation, such as the 10th overall pick in the upcoming draft and their first-round pick in the subsequent year. This hypothetical offer would have surpassed the Ravens' eventual trade package for Crosby.
