Premier Roger Cook Relocates to West Perth, Cites Commute
Western Australian Premier Roger Cook is relocating from his Wellard home to an area closer to Parliament House in West Perth. The move aims to streamline his daily routine and allow for greater focus on his official duties.
Commute Time Prompts Decision
The Premier cited the considerable travel time on the Kwinana Freeway as the key factor behind his decision. Cook stated that the relocation would enable him to dedicate more time to his role and community responsibilities.

Kwinana Freeway Widening Project Looms
Cook's decision comes as a major infrastructure project is set to begin. Construction is anticipated to commence later this year on a $700 million project to widen the Kwinana Freeway. This upgrade will add a new lane in each direction between Russell Road and Mortimer Road. Furthermore, ramp signals will be implemented on the northbound freeway from Safety Bay Road to Roe Highway to manage traffic flow more effectively.
Continued Commitment to Kwinana
Despite the change in residence, Cook indicated that Wellard would remain his home, with the property being rented out. He affirmed his unwavering commitment to representing the Kwinana electorate.
It is worth noting that in Western Australia, state Members of Parliament are not required to reside within their electorates. Cook had previously emphasized his strong connection to Kwinana during the 2025 election campaign.
