A head-on collision occurred on the Kings Highway in Monga, approximately 42 kilometres north-west of Batemans Bay, just after 5:00 PM on Monday. Two Hyundai hatchbacks were involved in the crash.
According to early investigations, a sedan crossed into the incorrect lane and collided with an oncoming hatchback. The cause of this maneuver remains under investigation.

Vehicle One (eastbound hatchback):
- Three occupants died at the scene, including a 38-year-old female driver, a 19-year-old female passenger, and an unidentified male passenger.
- A 15-year-old female passenger sustained critical injuries and was transported to Canberra Hospital for surgery.
Vehicle Two (westbound vehicle):
- A 39-year-old male driver was airlifted to Westmead Hospital with serious injuries and underwent surgery.
- A seven-year-old child was transported to The Children's Hospital at Westmead in stable condition.
- A three-year-old child was taken to Canberra Hospital as a precautionary measure.
All individuals involved are reported to be from the ACT and Queanbeyan regions.

The Monaro Police District established a crime scene. Specialist officers from the Southern Regional Crash Investigation Unit are leading the investigation. The Kings Highway was closed for approximately 12 hours, reopening just after 5:00 AM on Tuesday. Police have appealed for anyone with dash-cam footage of a 2023 model white Hyundai Ioniq traveling west, or a silver Hyundai i20 traveling east, to contact Crime Stoppers.

A male motorcyclist died following a crash on the Monaro Highway at approximately 1:20 PM on Friday. The incident occurred at Rock Flat, 20 kilometres south of Cooma. The rider, believed to be in his 40s, was traveling with a group of motorcyclists when he crashed. Authorities stated no other vehicles or objects are believed to have been involved. He was pronounced deceased prior to the arrival of emergency services. This is the first reported road fatality in NSW during the Easter long weekend.
Highway Closure and Travel Impact
The Monaro Highway was closed in both directions between Nimmitabel and Tom Groggin Road for several hours. Detours were implemented via the Kings Highway, Princes Highway, and Snowy Mountains Highway, adding an estimated five hours to travel times. Police established a crime scene at the location.
