Connecting Classrooms to the Cosmos: NASA Earth-to-Space Calls Scheduled

A series of live Earth-to-space calls are scheduled in the coming months, allowing students in Florida, New York, and Missouri to ask questions of NASA astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

Event Overview

NASA has announced three separate events in which astronauts on the ISS will answer prerecorded questions from students. The sessions focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) topics.

Individual Session Details

Session 1: Aurelia M. Cole Academy, Clermont, Florida

  • Participants: Astronaut Chris Williams will answer questions.
  • Date & Time: Friday, May 8, at 11:00 a.m. EDT.
  • Host: Aurelia M. Cole Academy.
  • Audience: Students in grades K-12 and community members.

Session 2: Queens Borough Public Library, Jamaica, New York

  • Participants: Astronauts Jack Hathaway and Chris Williams will answer questions.
  • Date & Time: Wednesday, March 11, beginning at 12:05 p.m. EDT.
  • Host: Queens Borough Public Library.
  • Audience: K-12 students and community members.

Session 3: University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri

  • Participants: Astronauts Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway will answer questions.
  • Date & Time: Thursday, April 30, at 10:50 a.m. EDT.
  • Host: University of Missouri Pre-Employment Transition Services.
  • Audience: Students in grades K-12 and community members.

Broadcast and Purpose

All three Earth-to-space calls will be streamed live on NASA's Learn With NASA YouTube channel. According to NASA, these events are designed to enhance understanding of space exploration and raise awareness of career opportunities in STEM fields.
