NASA Develops New Barrier Test for Spacecraft Safety

The NASA Engineering and Safety Center (NESC), in collaboration with materials and flammability experts from the Johnson Space Center, White Sands Test Facility, and Marshall Space Flight Center, developed a new test.

This test evaluates the effectiveness of material assemblies designed to act as a barrier.

The purpose of these barriers is to protect against potential ignition sources within the habitable volume of spacecraft, focusing on commonly used flammable materials.
