Jaelan Phillips Signs with Carolina Panthers; Eagles Seek Edge Rusher Replacements

View source

Jaelan Phillips, who played for the Philadelphia Eagles following a 2025 trade from the Miami Dolphins, has signed with the Carolina Panthers. The edge rusher agreed to a four-year contract worth $120 million, including $80 million guaranteed.

This deal places Phillips as the eighth-highest paid edge rusher in the NFL, with an annual salary of $30 million.

Phillips was considered a top free agent this offseason, but the financial terms of his new contract were reportedly too high for the Eagles to retain him.

Phillips' Stint with the Eagles

During his eight games with the Eagles, Phillips recorded 28 total tackles, seven quarterback hits, four passes defended, two sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

Eagles Face Edge Rusher Need

Following Phillips' departure, the Eagles face a need to address their edge rusher position. The team's current roster includes Jalyx Hunt, Nolan Smith, and Jose Ramirez.

Potential options for the Eagles reportedly include:

  • Jonathan Greenard from the Minnesota Vikings as a trade target.
  • Bradley Chubb, a free agent released by the Miami Dolphins, who has a prior connection to Vic Fangio and would not affect the Eagles' compensatory pick calculations.
