Police Vehicle Crashes into Merrylands Home for Second Time in Two Years

A police vehicle collided with a residential property on Holroyd Road in Merrylands, Western Sydney, around 5pm on Monday, marking the second such incident at the same address in two years.

The vehicle was operating with lights and sirens while responding to an assault call in Guildford West. Surveillance footage indicates the car drove over a speed hump before impacting the house's garage, resulting in substantive damage.

The garage sustained a partial collapse, and the front of the police vehicle was damaged, with smoke observed emanating from it. Law enforcement officials stated that no injuries were reported in connection with the crash.

Family Displaced, Narrow Escape Reported

The affected family was required to seek alternative accommodation for the night. The homeowner, Sylvia, was reportedly in the vicinity with grandchildren moments before the collision. The residence is situated adjacent to Hilltop Road Public School, which was closed on the day of the incident.

"It sounded like a bomb coming through the roof."
— Sylvia, Homeowner

A witness identified as Joe reported observing the vehicle operating at speed before hearing the impact.

"I heard the car come flying down with lights and sirens. Next minute I hear this almighty screech and then a big bang into the house. I think they just hit the corner a bit too fast."
— Joe, Witness

Police confirmed the vehicle was on urgent duty responding to a call and was not engaged in a pursuit. No other vehicles were involved.

Second Incident at Property

The homeowner confirmed this was the second occasion a police vehicle had impacted the property. In 2024, another police car, involved in a pursuit, collided with the front fence, causing less severe damage.

Investigation Underway

An investigation into the circumstances of the recent crash is currently ongoing. Police officials have stated they are "working with its insurance provider to arrange the necessary repairs."

"They almost killed my family. And a simple, 'oh, sorry about this', is not good enough."
