Patriots Reportedly Linked to Alec Pierce, May Target Four Specific Free Agents

The New England Patriots were reportedly linked to wide receiver Alec Pierce. With the legal tampering period now in its second day, the team may consider targeting four specific free agents to address various roster needs.

WR Romeo Doubs

Following the release of Stefon Diggs, New England requires additional wide receiver talent, particularly one effective in the red zone. Doubs has achieved 21 touchdowns in his initial four NFL seasons and registered a career-high 724 receiving yards on 55 receptions in 2025.

While he may not be considered a high-impact acquisition, the offense requires another established receiver.

The receiver's ability to move around the formation could be utilized.

TE Mo Alie-Cox

A viable blocking tight end has been a team need since Pharaoh Brown's departure in 2024. Alie-Cox has performed this role consistently throughout his eight-year career.

His addition, alongside Vera-Tucker and Gilliam, could enhance the Patriots’ run-game production.

ED Arnold Ebiketie

New England experienced a lack of pass-rush depth on defense last season. This situation persists without K’Lavon Chaisson under contract.

Even if the Patriots select a pass-rush specialist early in the draft, additional depth remains a necessity.

In 2025, UDFA Elijah Ponder totaled 215 defensive snaps, and fifth-round draft pick Bradyn Swinson spent a majority of his rookie year on the practice squad. Ebiketie saw a reduction in his role within Atlanta’s rotation relative to his 2024 workload, but he recorded two sacks, five tackles for a loss, and six quarterback hits. The former 2022 second-round selection has 16.5 career sacks. Ebiketie could provide depth as a situational pass rusher.

S Kevin Byard

New England has not extended Jaylinn Hawkins, one of the safeties who contributed to the team's Super Bowl appearance last season. Discussions between the Patriots and Hawkins’ representatives regarding a potential return are ongoing.

If an agreement is not reached, New England may consider another veteran such as Kevin Byard, who played under coach Mike Vrabel with the Tennessee Titans.

Byard, entering his age-33 season, recorded a notable statistical season in his 10-year career with the Bears, achieving seven interceptions, eight pass breakups, 93 tackles, and four for a loss.
