Australian Soldier Reece Humbles Granted Bail on Serious Charges

Australian soldier Reece Humbles, 29, has been granted bail in the Darwin Local Court, allowing him to return to New South Wales. He faces charges of robbery, aggravated assault, and deprivation of liberty in the Northern Territory.

Humbles made his initial court appearance from custody on Tuesday. The alleged victim in the case is reported to be a female member of the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

Bail Conditions

Judge Steven Ledek set a $10,000 bond for bail, noting the charges against Humbles were significant. Defence lawyer Samantha Marshall stated that Humbles has no prior criminal history and intends to dispute the charges.

His family will cover the bond and facilitate his travel to the NSW Central Coast. Humbles is required to return to the Northern Territory for subsequent court hearings.

No Contact Order and ADF Supervision

The court stipulated that Humbles's superiors are responsible for ensuring he has no contact with the alleged victim as he vacates his Darwin barracks and travels to NSW. Judge Ledek warned that bail would be revoked if the alleged victim receives any communication from Humbles.

Details regarding Humbles's current status within the ADF were not provided by his defence lawyer. However, she confirmed that Humbles would be supervised by an officer who was present during the court proceedings. The case is scheduled for a directions hearing in June.
