Day 3: NFL Free Agency Buzz – Key Deals & Lingering Concerns

Day 3 of NFL free agency saw several significant player movements and team agreements. While a major trade involving Maxx Crosby did not materialize, other critical deals were finalized, shaping rosters across the league.

Key Player Transactions

Trey Hendrickson to Baltimore Ravens

Trey Hendrickson signed a four-year, $120 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens, including $60 million fully guaranteed. The contract also features potential additional earnings of $500,000 for specific sack milestones (8, 10, 12, and 14 sacks per season).

Hendrickson recorded an impressive 17.5 sacks in both the 2023 and 2024 seasons. His 74.5 sacks rank third-most over the last six seasons, highlighting his consistent pass-rushing prowess.

Daniel Jones Re-signs with Indianapolis Colts

Daniel Jones agreed to a two-year, $88 million deal with the Indianapolis Colts, with a potential value of up to $100 million. Jones had been hit with the transition tag prior to this agreement.

In 2025, Jones achieved career highs, completing 68% of his passes for 3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. His passing yards per game was 238.5, and yards per attempt was 8.1. He is projected to earn $50 million in the upcoming season before incentives, which include $100,000 for each win where he plays at least 50% of snaps, up to $6 million.

Jones is one of only four quarterbacks in NFL history to receive two multi-year contracts worth at least $40 million per year.

Washington Commanders' Acquisitions

The Washington Commanders were notably active, signing multiple players to bolster their roster:

  • Tight end Chig Okonkwo (from Tennessee Titans): A three-year deal, reportedly up to $30 million. He recorded 560 yards and two touchdowns on 56 catches in 2025.
  • Safety Nick Cross (from Indianapolis Colts): A two-year, $14 million contract. He recorded 120 tackles, 2.5 sacks, five passes defensed, and one interception in 2025, following 146 tackles in 2024.
  • Pass rusher K'Lavon Chaisson (from New England Patriots): A one-year, $12 million deal. He achieved a career-high 10.5 sacks (regular and postseason) in the previous year.
  • Defensive end Charles Omenihu (from Kansas City Chiefs): A one-year, $7 million deal. He recorded 3.5 sacks in 2025.

The Commanders are also reportedly a potential landing spot for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Aiyuk may be released by the San Francisco 49ers and previously played with quarterback Jayden Daniels at Arizona State. He had 75 catches for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023.

Green Bay Packers Sign Javon Hargrave

The Green Bay Packers agreed to terms with former Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Javon Hargrave on a reported two-year, $23 million deal. Hargrave reunites with Packers defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon. They previously worked together during their time with the Philadelphia Eagles (2021-2022).

During their 33-game period with the Eagles, Hargrave accumulated 123 tackles and 18.5 sacks, including an 11-sack season in 2022.

Team Developments and Concerns

Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens successfully signed Trey Hendrickson, but concerns have been raised regarding his fit and durability. His age (31), injury history (missed 10 games in the prior year), and run defense capabilities are points of discussion. He ranked last among 178 front-seven players in tackle percentage since 2020.

The failed trade for Maxx Crosby generated controversy, with some speculating about the reasons for the deal's collapse, despite official explanations citing medical concerns.

Las Vegas Raiders

The Maxx Crosby trade falling through requires the Raiders to reassess their offseason plans. This development impacts their salary cap and future draft pick assets. Reports suggest Crosby's trade value may have decreased following reports of knee concerns.

Crosby reportedly disagreed with the team's decision to shut him down for the final two games of the 2025 regular season.
