Borderlands 4: "Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned" Story Pack Details Revealed

Gearbox has officially announced the first Story Pack for Borderlands 4, titled "Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned," set to launch on March 26, 2026. This major update will introduce C4SH, a brand-new playable Vault Hunter, alongside a sprawling new map zone, additional enemy types, and a wealth of new loot. Comprehensive details regarding the Story Pack's content and a highly anticipated shared progression feature were shared via a recent Steam post.

Release and Availability

"Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned," Borderlands 4's inaugural Story Pack, is confirmed to release on March 26, 2026. This announcement provides a precise launch date, building upon prior communications that had only offered broader quarterly release windows. A trailer for the Story Pack has already been released, giving players a first look at the upcoming content.

New Vault Hunter: C4SH

The Story Pack's highlight is the introduction of C4SH, a new playable Vault Hunter characterized as a CasinoBot. C4SH's intriguing backstory involves obtaining a magical deck that bestows eldritch powers following a high-stakes card game, which has heavily influenced a penchant for risk-taking. Players will have the immediate option to select C4SH as their starting character. C4SH will be fully playable across the base game and all future DLC zones. A complete gameplay reveal for C4SH is scheduled for March 16.

Story Pack Content

The narrative of Story Pack 1 unfolds within a new and expansive map zone known as The Whispering Glacier. Players will join forces with Ellie to confront a formidable new alien threat, with Mancubus Bloodtooth also confirmed to play a role in the storyline.

The Whispering Glacier zone is packed with content, featuring:

  • New main missions and side missions to expand the Borderlands lore.
  • Various activities and collectibles for dedicated explorers.
  • Two major boss encounters to test players' skills.
  • 15 challenging minibosses scattered throughout the zone.
  • A completely new enemy type to confront.

To empower Vault Hunters against these new challenges, the Story Pack will add three coveted Pearlescent weapons and 11 new pieces of Legendary loot, including powerful weapons, versatile gear, and unique Class Mods. Furthermore, 28 new cosmetic items will become available, allowing for extensive character customization.

Shared Progression Feature

A significant quality-of-life improvement, a shared progression feature, will be included with Story Pack 1. This innovative system will allow characters under the same account to share access to:

  • Shared map progression
  • SDU tokens
  • Hover Drives
  • Cosmetic rewards
  • Activity progression

It is important to note that cross-platform saves are not part of this specific update, but are planned for a later implementation.
