Jane Fallon Diagnosed with Early-Stage Breast Cancer

Author and television producer Jane Fallon, partner of Ricky Gervais, has announced a diagnosis of early-stage breast cancer.

Fallon, 65, shared the news via an Instagram post, explaining that the diagnosis came about a month prior. She stated the prognosis is excellent due to the early detection.

"The prognosis is excellent due to the early detection."

The cancer was identified during a routine mammogram conducted a week before Christmas. Fallon noted she had no symptoms, but a radiographer detected an irregularity, leading to further tests and a biopsy.

Following the initial findings, Fallon underwent additional mammograms, biopsies, and an MRI to precisely locate the affected area. Her surgery is scheduled for the week after next.

Fallon thanked her medical team for their care and indicated she would be taking time away from public engagement.

Connection to After Life

The diagnosis prompted many to note a correlation with the character of Lisa in the British comedy-drama After Life, a series created, written, directed by, and starring Ricky Gervais. In the show, Gervais's character's wife was diagnosed with breast cancer and had passed away from the disease, appearing in flashbacks.

Gervais has previously stated that the series drew inspiration from his relationship with Fallon.

Gervais indicated that losing his soulmate would be the worst thing that could happen to him.

Fallon and Gervais have been in a relationship since 1982 and moved in together two years later. They do not have children and have devoted themselves to their pets.
