Flash Flooding Engulfs Northern Rivers Region, Prompting Rescues
Flash flooding occurred in New South Wales' Northern Rivers region, leading to resident rescues from homes and vehicles.
The severe weather system impacted communities including Lismore, Byron Bay, Bangalow, and Mullumbimby around noon.

A substantial 106mm of rain was recorded at Coopers Shoot, near Bangalow, over a period of just three hours. This intense rainfall contributed to the rapid onset of flooding.
Impact and Extensive Rescue Efforts
Bangalow's main street was notably inundated by floodwater. Kristine McDonald, SES deputy zone commander, confirmed the severity of the situation.

On Deacon Street in Bangalow, multiple vehicles became submerged in the rising floodwater. Rescue operations were quickly underway:
- Two individuals were evacuated from their homes on Deacon Street.
- One person was successfully rescued from a vehicle that had become trapped in floodwater.
A witness recounted the rapid inundation of a vehicle on Deacon Street, illustrating the speed at which floodwaters rose. In total, twenty cars sustained damage as a result of the flood.

The SES has issued an advice-level severe weather warning specifically for areas near Byron Bay.
Residents have been strongly advised to monitor conditions vigilantly and, crucially, to avoid driving through floodwater.
