Vance Cites Classification for Silence on Iran War Discussions

Vice President JD Vance has declined to answer questions regarding his discussions with President Donald Trump about the Iran war, citing classification. Vance stated that revealing these conversations publicly could lead to imprisonment. When questioned about his initial advice concerning military options, Vance reiterated that the discussions took place in a classified setting and he would not disclose them.

Vance Explains Refusal to Disclose Details

During a speech on affordability in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Vance provided further context for his decision to withhold information.

"I am not going to reveal what I said in that classified room, partly to avoid imprisonment and partly because it is important for the president to be able to talk to his advisers without them discussing it with the media."

President Trump Comments on Vance's Reservations

President Trump addressed reporters on Monday, commenting on his Vice President's reported stance on the war.

"He was, I would say, philosophically a little bit different than me. I think he was maybe less enthusiastic about going, but he was quite enthusiastic. But I felt it was something we had to do."

Trump also stated that he and Vance "get along very well" on the issue.

Reports Indicate Evolving Stance

CNN previously reported on Vance's initial position, indicating that he was initially skeptical of the strikes. However, as President Trump's intention to proceed became clear, Vance reportedly shifted his stance, advocating for a swift and decisive attack.

Vance's Record on Military Engagements

A Marine Corps veteran, Vance has a history of criticizing past administrations. He has previously expressed concerns about engaging American troops in prolonged conflicts without clear objectives.
