Former NRL Star Chris Walker Arrested on Gold Coast Amid Domestic Violence Allegations

Former National Rugby League (NRL) and Queensland State of Origin player Chris Walker, 46, was arrested on the Gold Coast on Saturday night in connection with alleged domestic violence offences. Queensland Police confirmed the arrest, stating that Walker is currently assisting with ongoing inquiries. As of the latest reports, no charges have been laid.

Dramatic Arrest Unfolds in Currumbin Waters

On Saturday evening, police received information indicating that a man wanted for alleged domestic violence offences was present in Currumbin Waters. Officers subsequently attended an address to locate Walker.

Police allege that Walker attempted to evade arrest at his home by fleeing in a ute onto a nearby street. He reportedly abandoned the vehicle and continued on foot, jumping fences and entering a backyard.

Police units then conducted a two-hour search of the area surrounding Whitsunday Drive in Currumbin Waters. The extensive search involved multiple units converging on the residential area.

Walker was eventually located, allegedly hiding under a pontoon in nearby canals, and was taken into custody around 8:30 PM Queensland time.

Ongoing Police Investigation

Queensland Police have confirmed Walker's arrest in relation to alleged domestic violence offences. He is currently assisting police with inquiries, and at the time of reporting, no charges had been laid. The investigation is ongoing.

Chris Walker's Distinguished Rugby League Career

Chris Walker, 46, had a professional rugby league career that spanned from 1999 to 2011, playing 163 NRL games and scoring 87 tries for various clubs. His extensive club career included stints with the Brisbane Broncos, South Sydney Rabbitohs, Sydney Roosters, Melbourne Storm, Gold Coast Titans, Parramatta Eels, and Catalans Dragons.

Notably, he scored 40 tries in 67 games for the Brisbane Broncos and played in the Sydney Roosters' 2004 grand final. Walker also represented Queensland in six State of Origin matches between 2001 and 2002, scoring four tries for the Maroons.

He is the brother of former NRL players Shane and Ben Walker and the uncle of current Roosters halfback Sam Walker, making his family a significant name in rugby league.

Prior to Arrest

Prior to his arrest, Walker had posted on Instagram on Friday night, acknowledging South Sydney player Alex Johnston's record as the greatest tryscorer in Australian rugby league history.
