Perth Man Charged with Alleged Murder of Adelaide's Caleb Leriano
A 22-year-old man from Brabham, Perth, has been charged with the alleged murder of Caleb Leriano, 24, from Adelaide. The arrest follows a major crime investigation into Mr. Leriano's death earlier this week.
The Incident: Discovery in Morphett Vale
Mr. Leriano was discovered with life-threatening injuries inside a BMW sedan on Golflands View at Morphett Vale, in Adelaide's southern suburbs. The discovery was made at approximately 1:30 AM on Wednesday, March 11.
He was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. Despite the immediate efforts of paramedics, Mr. Leriano tragically died at the scene.
SA Police stated that Mr. Leriano's injuries were not consistent with the vehicle collision, indicating an alleged assault occurred prior to the crash.
His death was promptly declared a major crime by authorities. Police allege that Mr. Leriano drove his red 2003 BMW to the vicinity of Saphire Reserve, Morphett Vale, for a planned meeting in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The specific reason for this meeting and the subsequent events leading to his death remain under investigation.
Investigation and Arrest
In connection with the ongoing case, police conducted searches at two homes and a local park on Wednesday. These extensive efforts by Major Crime investigators led to the subsequent arrest of the 22-year-old Perth man.
He is scheduled to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court this afternoon. An application will be made for his extradition to South Australia, where he will face a murder charge.
Police Statement
Acting Officer-in-Charge of the Major Crime Investigation Branch, Andrew Macrae, conveyed that authorities were pleased to share the developments with Mr. Leriano’s family. Due to the case now being before the courts, no further comment will be provided by police at this time.
Appeal for Public Assistance
Police are continuing to request any CCTV or dash cam footage from the vicinity of Saphire Road and surrounding streets between 12:30 AM and 1:30 AM on Wednesday, March 11.
