SNL Sketch Parodies Trump, Defense Secretary on Iran and Gas Prices

A recent Saturday Night Live opening sketch featured cast member James Austin Johnson portraying a simulated "President Donald Trump" delivering a televised message on national stability.

The segment addressed public concerns about the potential domestic impacts of a hypothetical conflict in Iran and the issue of rising gas prices.

The sketch began with a family watching television and discussing high prices at the pump. The simulated Trump character then appeared on screen within the sketch.

He acknowledged past campaign promises, such as lowering gas prices and avoiding foreign wars, before commenting on the current cost of gas and the performance of the stock market. The character humorously attributed high prices to "The Epstein Files."

Later in the sketch, Colin Jost appeared as a character named "Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth." When asked about potential plans regarding Iran, the Hegseth character responded evasively, stating that he did not know.

The character also parodied a defense secretary complaining about media coverage of a conflict. The fake Trump character re-entered the scene, agreeing with this sentiment about the press.
