IS Expels Villager from Mosque, Declares New Imams

An individual who chose to remain in a village, even as others evacuated, has reported a forceful expulsion from a local mosque by members of the Islamic State (IS). This account details a direct confrontation where IS members asserted their authority.

According to the individual's testimony, IS members declared themselves the new imams of the mosque. They then issued a stern warning:

"If their instructions were not followed and the mosque not vacated immediately, the individual would 'get what [they] deserve.'"
