Group Technologies GTX Event Highlights Latest Audio Innovations

The Group Technologies GTX event featured 20 product experts from various brands, traveling from the UK and Europe. The event provided opportunities for one-on-one discussions in a relaxed environment, showcasing the latest advancements in audio technology.

DiGiCo, Fourier Audio, and KLANG Unveil New Offerings

DiGiCo representatives Ian Staddon and Dave Bigg, alongside Fourier Audio’s Elliot Sinclair, were present to introduce their newest products.

DiGiCo Quantum112: Portability Meets Power

The Quantum112 flyweight mixer made its debut. Weighing just 23kg when housed in a custom Pelican case, it emphasizes portability without compromising on performance. This compact format delivers full Quantum mixer capabilities, sharing the engine and processing of larger Quantum models but with fewer channels. Shipments have already commenced, with the company reporting high demand.

An anticipated Quantum software update, expected by late March, will introduce integration with Sound Devices wireless microphones and support for Fourier Audio’s Hyperport connection.

Fourier Audio: Ultra-Low Latency with Hyperport and transform.go

Elliot Sinclair provided an in-depth look at Hyperport, a groundbreaking technology that significantly reduces round-trip signal latency. Hyperport cuts latency from three milliseconds (via standard Dante) to an impressive 1.2 milliseconds between the console and the engine. This substantial reduction aims to greatly enhance usability for monitor engineers. Existing Dante hardware will be able to support Hyperport via a simple firmware upgrade. The connection boasts plug-and-play functionality, requiring only two cables (including a redundant link) and operating seamlessly without the need for Dante Controller.

Fourier Audio also introduced the transform.go, a new 16-channel version featuring two DSP cores. This more compact unit offers the same comprehensive feature set as the larger 64-channel transform.engine, catering to smaller-scale productions.

KLANG: Immersive Monitoring on the Go

KLANG released its new single-mix immersive monitoring devices: KLANG:1 and KLANG:1pro. These devices are designed to integrate seamlessly with DiGiCo surfaces. They are specifically engineered for artists who need to easily transport their immersive mixes for travel. The KLANG:1 features MADI input and output, while the KLANG:1pro expands connectivity with two MADI inputs, one MADI output, and Dante. For increased flexibility, multiple units can be cascaded to provide additional mixes.

Focal: Stepping into Dolby Atmos

Group Technologies has upgraded its studio space to include full Dolby Atmos capabilities, prominently featuring Focal monitoring solutions. Vincent Moreuille from Focal shared insights into the sophisticated setup.

Focal Dolby Atmos Studio: A New Creative Dimension

The newly equipped studio incorporates a 7.1.4 system compliant with Dolby’s Atmos standard, utilizing Focal Shape series near-field monitors and two slim Sub One subwoofers. Vincent Moreuille highlighted Atmos as a powerful new creative tool for artists and producers. He also emphasized Focal’s significant presence in both content creation and home audio, exemplified by innovative products like the Mu-So Hekla immersive speaker, which integrates Dolby decoding and Focal Sphere algorithms.

NST Audio: The Versatile DM88 System Processor

Dan Cartman, founder and chief engineer of NST Audio, introduced the new DM88 System Processor.

NST Audio DM88 System Processor: Central Control for Live and Installation

The DM88 is a sophisticated matrix processor developed for both live sound and installation environments. Positioned strategically between a mixing desk and an amplifier rack, it functions as a versatile desk switcher, signal router, house EQ, and format converter. Standard features include eight analog inputs/outputs, eight AES/EBU inputs/outputs, and 16 Dante inputs/outputs. The processor boasts a semi-open architecture, allowing for flexible routing and processing, and is configured using the intuitive D-Net software. New features enhance efficiency, including channel grouping, linking, and multiple device grouping for streamlined system administration. This allows for the application of delay, gain, or EQ to an entire system or specific subgroups with ease.
