Germany Declines Participation in Strait of Hormuz Military Mission

Germany's Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul announced on Sunday that Germany is not prepared to join the international military mission aimed at protecting ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

"We will only get security for the Strait of Hormuz ... if there is a negotiated solution."

Wadephul further indicated that while Europe generally provides constructive support for securing sea routes, he does not foresee an immediate necessity for Germany's participation in this particular mission.

The Aspides operation was initiated in the Red Sea in February 2024, specifically in response to Houthi attacks on international shipping.
