Jessie Buckley Claims First Oscar for "Hamnet"

Jessie Buckley has won her first Oscar for Best Actress for her role as Agnes Shakespeare in ChloƩ Zhao's film "Hamnet." The award was presented at the 98th Academy Awards on Sunday, March 15.

A Resounding Frontrunner

Buckley had been considered a frontrunner in the Best Actress category, securing several early wins leading up to the Oscars.

She previously received Best Actress honors at the Actor Awards, BAFTA Film Awards, Critics Choice Awards, and Golden Globes for her performance in "Hamnet."

This marks Buckley's second Oscar nomination; she was previously nominated for Best Supporting Actress for "The Lost Daughter" in 2022.

Director ChloƩ Zhao had selected Buckley for the role of Agnes, noting her "lack of vanity and authenticity in her work."

"Hamnet" Garnered Multiple Nominations

"Hamnet" received additional Oscar nominations in categories including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Casting, Best Production Design, and Best Costume Design.
