Scientists have documented killer whales and Pacific white-sided dolphins hunting together off the coast of British Columbia, Canada. This observation marks the first recorded instance of cooperative hunting between these two species.
The findings from the research, conducted by scientists using drones and camera tags to study the animals' feeding behavior, have been published in the journal Nature Scientific Reports.
Dr. Sarah Fortune, lead researcher from Dalhousie University, stated that the tagged killer whales were observed orienting themselves towards the dolphins at the water's surface. Furthermore, when the dolphins initiated dives, the tagged killer whales subsequently dived as well, indicating coordinated movement during hunting activities.
