Disney Announces Release Dates for Animated Sequels

Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro officially announced release dates for two animated sequels at a shareholders meeting. The studio had previously reserved both dates on the Comscore calendar under untitled placeholders. No competing studio releases are currently slated for these dates.

Lilo & Stitch 2 is scheduled for May 26, 2028, and Pixar’s Incredibles 3 will be released on June 16, 2028.

Lilo & Stitch 2 Confirmed for 2028

The live-action adaptation of Lilo & Stitch achieved a holiday opening record, earning $182 million over four days during the last Memorial Day weekend, surpassing 2023’s Top Gun: Maverick's $160.5 million.

It was the first film to exceed $1 billion globally in 2025, with $423.7 million domestically and $614.2 million internationally.

Incredibles 3 Details Emerge, New Director Named

Information regarding Incredibles 3’s 2028 release had circulated prior to the opening of Hoppers.

The first two Incredibles films collectively grossed $1.87 billion worldwide.

The original film was released in 2004, and its sequel in 2018, with the latter becoming the seventh-highest-grossing animated film globally.

Brad Bird, filmmaker for the Incredibles franchise, is writing and producing the third installment, but not directing. Peter Sohn, known for Elemental, will direct the film. Bird was offered the directing role.
