US State Department Clarification on Afghanistan Evacuees

The US State Department has clarified its position regarding evacuees from Afghanistan, stating it is not forcibly returning any to the country.

The department's recent statement provides an update on the status of individuals who departed Afghanistan, addressing concerns about their return.

Voluntary Returns Confirmed

The department stated that it is not forcibly returning any evacuees to Afghanistan. This clarification underscores its policy regarding the movement of these individuals.

The State Department also confirmed that some evacuees have, in fact, voluntarily returned to Afghanistan.

Allegations of Financial Incentives

While the State Department did not confirm whether it was providing financial incentives for these voluntary returns, sources have indicated that evacuees were offered specific payments.

These offers reportedly included a payment of $4,500 (£3,338) for the main applicant. Additionally, an extra $1,200 was offered for each accompanying family member who chose to return.
