Wild Possum Found at Hobart Airport
Passenger Reports Unusual Discovery in Departure Terminal Gift Shop
A living Australian brushtail possum was discovered on Wednesday in a gift shop at Hobart Airport in Tasmania, spotted among toy native animals on a display shelf in the departure terminal.
A browsing passenger first reported the animal's presence.
Airport retail manager, Liam Bloomfield, confirmed the incident on Thursday. After being alerted by the passenger, a staff member informed airport management of the possum's unexpected arrival.
Airport staff filmed the possum before it left the shop. Subsequently, staff safely removed the animal from the airport premises.
The exact method of the possum's entry into the secure departure terminal and its duration of stay remain unknown. Officials stated it was unlikely the possum was placed there as a prank, given the security screening procedures.
