Dom Dolla Unleashes Reimagined 'Addicted To Bass' with Quirky Video and Michael Rowland Cameo

Dom Dolla has released a reimagined version and music video for Puretone's classic track 'Addicted To Bass'. The music video, directed by Kyle Caulfield and Charles Buxton-Leslie, features a fish, a large sound system, and a notable cameo from Australian journalist Michael Rowland.

The new video, combining surreal elements with a high-energy track, was filmed over a single day and night in a suburban Melbourne house.

Rowland's Unexpected Cameo

Michael Rowland stated his involvement followed a direct message from one of the directors, noting he fit the role of a 'nerdy Dad'. Rowland described the experience as 'surreal' and 'wild'. Dom Dolla was present during the filming process.

Visualizing the Bass Drop

Co-director Kyle Caulfield explained that the video concept was initially inspired by a lo-fi video depicting visual distortion from powerful bass. The idea developed concurrently with Dom Dolla's remix, aiming to create visuals that matched the track's significant drop. The production team completed the video in under two weeks.

Reintroducing a Classic: Australian Roots and Global Reach

'Addicted To Bass' was originally released in 1998 on Puretone's (Josh Abrahams) album 'Sweet Distorted Holiday'. Dom Dolla expressed his intention with the remix was to introduce the song to a new generation and global audience. He also aimed to use an Australian crew for the video, celebrating the song's origins in Melbourne.

Puretone, Josh Abrahams, commented positively on Dom Dolla's remix, appreciating its 'deep, dirty, basement-funk vibe'.

A Note on Ear Health

The directors included a note emphasizing the importance of ear health and hearing protection. They stated the video's effects were not generated with actual loud music, and talent wore ear protection.
