Luke Hemsworth Lands Dream Comedy Role in Deadloch Season 2
Luke Hemsworth is set to appear in the new season of Kate McLennan and Kate McCartney’s crime comedy, Deadloch. Hemsworth stated this role fulfills a 25-year ambition to work in comedy.
He recalled contacting Kate McLennan approximately two decades prior, seeking comedy career advice. McLennan, however, reportedly did not remember this conversation when Hemsworth was approached for Deadloch.
A Shift from Action to Comedy
Hemsworth's career has largely focused on action and sci-fi roles, notably as Ashley Stubbs in Westworld. He also has an upcoming role in the film Beast, starring alongside Daniel MacPherson and Russell Crowe.
Portraying a Celebrity Croc Wrangler
For Deadloch season two, set in the Top End, Hemsworth portrays Jason Wade, a celebrity croc wrangler. He mentioned drawing inspiration for the character from individuals he encountered during his upbringing in Arnhem Land and later while working on a pearl farm in the Kimberley.
Jason Wade's character includes explicit references to Russell Crowe and a series resembling Chris Hemsworth's Limitless. Hemsworth confirmed that the Limitless reference was deliberately included as a jibe at his brother.
Family Influences and Personal Reflections
Hemsworth also touched upon his family background, highlighting his mother's feminist principles and his father's career in child protection services. He specifically referenced the National Geographic documentary, A Road Trip to Remember, which featured Chris and their father, addressing his father's Alzheimer’s diagnosis. He described the episode as "beautiful" and "heartbreaking."
A Preference for Australian Productions
Hemsworth expressed a strong preference for working on Australian productions like Deadloch, noting perceived cultural differences in humor between Australians and Americans.
Championing Local Production
Hemsworth currently serves as an ambassador for Central Coast Studios, a planned film and TV production facility in Calga, NSW. His motivation stems from a desire to increase local work opportunities for himself, as well as to support young and independent filmmakers and crew.
